Elizabeth Lyon Hall is a historian with research areas in ancient and medieval philosophy of science, religion, and music. Her recent research has focused on the (now arguably defunct) quadrivial science of harmonics, the theology of liturgy, and theories behind medieval spiritual practices. She came onboard as the inaugural director of COLLIS Institute in July 2022 after having served on the faculties of Ithaca College and Cornell University and as music director and campus minister for the Catholic Community at Cornell. Lyon completed her PhD at Cornell University, and afterwards enjoyed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics (Frankfurt am Main). She also holds degrees from Columbia University and The Juilliard School.
